A 26 book reading challenge

Category: Tags: ,

Description

  1. While playing at the library with my daughter, I came up with the Reading the Alphabet Challenge. This is a challenge to read 26 books, one representing each letter of the alphabet. This freebie includes several variations of the challenge, a bookshelf tracker, and a certificate of completion. Click for more info on the challenge and an example of the books we chose to start our challenge.

You can purchase books for each letter, but I recommend bringing your child to the library to choose books together. When your child picks out his or her own books, he or she will feel more invested in following through and reading them. If that’s not an option, you can use apps like Libby, Hoopla, or Epic to choose digital or audiobooks together.

Although the Reading the Alphabet Challenge was created with kids in mind, it is a great challenge for adults as well! One of the best ways to foster a love of reading in children is to model it by reading yourself. Read independently or together. Set up daily reading times. If your children are able to read to themselves, create a family book club and share the stories with each other. If they can’t read to themselves yet, take time to read to your child, interact with the books, and ask your child questions to find out what they remember.

Happy reading!
